Pets in our foster program are well loved and learning to be the best pet they can be considering their breed characteristics, history and current needs. Want to give fostering a try while you decide if you want the commitment of adopting?
When a pet is in foster with ARF, the pet will be vaccinated, spayed or neutered if age appropriate and placed for adoption. During the time of their foster care ARF supplies all pet food, treats, pet supplies and veterinary care. Foster parents recieve all information known to ARF about the pet being fostered so the foster home is not surprised by known behavior of the pet. Adoptable pets are advertised through Petfinder, Adopt a Pet and the ARF Facebook pages. Recommended amounts for donation to adopt a pet varies dependent on the type of pet, known breed, and their age.
At times dogs in foster care will be transferred by ARF to Spokanimal or McPaws. Transfer often occurs when a home can not be found for them locally. Spokanimal will at times take young puppies and both McPaws and Spokanimal will often take kittens who are in foster care. ARF helps arrange the transfer of any animals that either shelter says they are willing to take after an animal has been in foster care with ARF.
To become a foster home for ARF, families must fill out the Foster Volunteer Application and Sign the Foster Home Agreement.
ADOPT
All pets in our foster to adopt program are vaccinated, microchipped and either spayed or neutered while in ARF custody or soon after adoption. To adopt a pet from our foster program, potential pet parents must fill out an application to adopt. One of our Foster/Adopt coordinators will call the applicants for a short information exchange and if all still looks probable for an adoption, the volunteer will schedule a time and place for the potential pet parent(s) to meet the pet. Adoptions can be finalized at the time of the meeting if the meeting goes well for the pet and potential owners.
Also available for adoption are pets in our rehoming assistance program. Pets in the rehoming program remain in the owner's care until a suitable home can be found for them. Depending on the request of the owner the pet may be adopted through the ARF adoption process or by direct contact with the owner of the pet. Pets who are being rehomed are not vaccinated or spayed and neutered by ARF. ARF does microchip the pet when the owner(s) agree to ARF's rehoming assistance agreement. All information about the pet comes directly from the owner and ARF makes no representions about the breed, history, behaviors or characteristics of the pet other than what the owner tells ARF about those subjects.
