Rehome Your Pet

When owners want to rehome their pet ARF can assist by posting pictures of the pet and a description of the pet on ARF's Facebook sites and on ReHome by Adopt a Pet. The ARF team can only help with rehoming a pet if several good pictures of the pet are sent to ARF by email or text. Pictures should show the pet as happy and approachable. Pictures of their face, sitting, standing, laying down are recommended. Pictures that only show the pets back or facing away are not usuable.

In addition to pictures, ARF needs a comprehensive description of the pet's good and bad behavior. The description should include: commands they know, if they are potty trained, leash trained, litter box trained, will kennel, stay, wait, sit, lay down on command, etc. ARF also needs to know if the pet good with other animals - dogs, cats, chickens, and are they good with children and strangers. Information regarding vaccinations. microchip and spay/neuter status is an absolute must. 

ARF will ask what, if any, steps the owner has taken to rehome the pet before calling ARF. Steps could inlcude updating vaccinations, altering the pet and teaching them commands or leash training. Advertising can be done through facebook posts with requests to share, Rehome by Adopt a Pet and Home to Home.

ARF suggests that owners who want to rehome their pets make every effort to advertise the pet on their own. They should also talk to their relatives, neighbors and friends to see if someone they know who also knows the pet might take the pet on a permanent basis.
